The NHS LIFT (Local Improvement and Finance Trust) initiative was established by the Department of Health in 2001, to stimulate investment in modern integrated primary and other community based services. More than 50 LIFT projects have been established across England, each covering between 1 and 6 Primary Care Trusts.
The aim of LIFT is to improve the condition and function of the existing primary case estate, to bring a more coherent and strategic approach to the development of service and facilities, and to address the issues PCTs face in raising capital to carry out re-developments. It offers the opportunity to create modern, high quality, sustainable and flexible buildings, specifically designed to meet the changing service needs of the NHS, and to ensure these buildings are properly maintained and serviced.
